Dinosaur Fossil Buying Guide

Dinosaur fossils are the remains of dinosaurs that have been naturally preserved. Buying dinosaur fossils is similar to buying any collectible item. The question that must be asked is: "Why do you want to purchase dinosaur fossils?".

The answer to this question will aid you greatly in finding dinosaur fossils that are right for you!

For instance, if your purpose is to own a piece of your favorite dinosaur, then you should look for dinosaur bones from that species. Usually, teeth are good place to start, since dinosaur teeth are readily available.

Collecting fossils as an investment is tricky. Since there is no set value assessment standard, prices often fluctuate. A specimen that is very expensive now may lose value over time, rather than gaining. If you are going to have a collection as an investment, you should look for species that are rare. For instance, Spinosaurus fossils are very rare and have only been found in in Africa, Egypt, and Morocco.

Perhaps you would like to collect fossils that are meaningful to you for personal reasons. I would like to collect fossils that are found in Texas because I live in Texas. You can choose to do something similar, like collecting fossils from a certain location or only from certain species (ie. only T-Rex fossils, only Velociraptor fossils, etc.).

So where do you find dinosaur fossils for sale?

Gem and mineral shows are a good resource, and most areas have them at least every year. You can also buy fossils online. Some good places to find dinosaur fossils for sale on the internet are Dino-Star and fossil king. One of my favorite places to shop for things like dinosaur fossils is eBay. We mainly use them to buy clothes for the kids, because we can buy clothes and then when our kids grow out of them we can turn around and sell them on eBay. It is very cost efficient for us. You can also find dinosaur fossils for sale at some history museums and science related stores.

If you are interested in learning more about fossils I recommend that you take a look at one of the books below. You should be able to find them for free in your local library, but if you want to own one of them for reference purposes, click on one of the links below to purchase it. They are fairly in-expensive and good for beginners who are interested in becoming fossil hunters and digging up dinosaur bones for themselves.
